Patrick Mimran – Ghosts

Comunicato stampa
Patrick Mimran started the series Ghost in 2010. He paints the ghostly - the departed who return, within us, those who don't want to die, but intend to go on living, quite apart from all those things which weave our fleshly ties to the figures of the past.
The painting of Ghost, while seemingly abstract, amounts to an act of resuscitation. Our body is haunted.
For his Ghost, the author used black and white , oil or acrylic. In some of these paintings, the artist superimpose coloured banners (blue ones in particular) over the black and white, which remain visible through the colour, like a flat, transparent visual filter covering the lines. The work of the painter, here, is analogous to the work of a photographer, except that it is composed not through the oculus of the camera but directly on the canvas itself.
Patrick Mimran finished his Ghost, on 12 September 2012, the day of the Jewish New Year, he dated this series of paintings by twin calendars that count respectively his life time and his belonging to the world, i.e., the universal calendar (of Christian origin) on one side, (2012), and the Hebraic calendar (5773), to which he is bound by his Jewishness, on the other.
