The Monteverdi Gallery is home to an exciting collection of contemporary art by some of the world’s leading visual artists. Monteverdi is a place for art and culture to come face-to-face with the astounding landscape. The region is not only rich in terms of its beauty and wealth of good food and wine, but also in its history and culture – an ideal place to present new works of art, and to provide residencies to artists from around the world. The residency and gallery programs are curated by Sarah McCrory who is currently the Director of Glasgow International. Previous artists in residence: Fay Nicolson, Sanya Kantarovsky and Marvin Gaye Chetwynd.
Patrizio Di Massimo (Italy, 1983) is a London-based artist whose works bypass reality into an imaginary world where mythical figures, angels and clouds live together in a cosmological game suspended in time and space. During his residency at Monteverdi, Di Massimo will continue a series of small paintings portraying Saint’s faces initially shown during the 56th edition of the Venice Biennale in a Carlo Scarpa designed studio. These works will be shown alongside an installation of new hand-painted terracotta amphoras depicting the sexualized story of Adam and Eve’s genesis in a tower structure where illustration and narrative is fragmented and intersected.
This work marks the artist's recent collaboration with NUOVE//Residency project where Di Massimo had the opportunity to collaborate with some leading ceramic experts and craftsmen. Thanks to Ruggero Carlesso, Claudio Lancerini and Claudio Reginato. The project was sponsored by T293, Rome - Naples | www.t293.it - [email protected]
