La galleria Giorgio Galotti è lieta di presentare Paul Branca: Totes, prima italiana dell'artista newyorkese, che avvia il programma di mostre personali della galleria.
Per l'occasione l'artista presenta una selezione di opere su tele “readymade" ottenute da borse - tote bags - montate su telai di legno.
Paul Branca, conosciuto per le sue ricerche sulla connettività sociale della cultura gastronomica, ha meticolosamente ritratto salsicce, affettati misti e verdure portando avanti progetti che spesso svelano la capacità della pittura di riflettere all’interno del suo linguaggio le stesse strategie che animano la distribuzione.
Il mondo dell’arte, così come il mondo della moda e del cibo, ai quali l'artista strizza ironicamente l'occhio, è sommerso dalle tote bags: gadget utilizzati in tutte le forme, che assurgono ormai al ruolo di feticcio. Per istituzioni, musei, gallerie, bar, riviste e persino supermercati, le tote bags giocano un ruolo che è funzionale, estetico e pubblicitario al tempo stesso.
Il riuso è una proprietà intrinseca di questi accessori e Paul Branca, utilizzando il materiale di cui sono fatte - tela o juta - le tramuta in un supporto pittorico classico, intelandole e applicandovi il gesso, esattamente come avviene per la preparazione di una tela industriale o artigianale. Lo slogan del “riuso” è qui preso alla lettera, permettendo così una seconda vita all'oggetto in sé, attraverso l’atto pittorico.
L’intenzione è quella di mantenere l’integrità della borsa, permettendo ai manici di penzolare liberi o nascondendone il lavoro pittorico, per suggestionare lo spettatore all’idea della trasportabilità dell'opera d'arte.
Il progetto qui proposto è una raccolta di lavori recenti che mostrano il suo interesse per diverse tecniche pittoriche, oscillando tra l'astrattismo e immagini tradotte in parole come nel caso di 'Nose', in cui l’artista va impassibilmente oltre scandendo il soggetto ritratto con lettere stampate.
Per la composizione della mostra, Paul Branca ha utilizzato la sua collezione personale di tote bags provenienti sia da istituzioni come la Kunshalle di Berna, il MACBA di Barcellona, The New Yorker, il Whitney Museum of American Art, sia da bar e ristoranti come il New York’s Everymans Espresso e la storica panetteria bolognese Atti.
La mostra sarà accompagnata da un breve saggio di Jesi Khadivi.

“In his process the artistic and scientific researches are mixed, therefore, as the artist himself states, it is a speculative process.
The two main starting points of his research are the kilogram and gravitational waves: for both there are no ultimate answers and both have the utopical aim to find an absolute reference in reality. Kilogram is the only unit of measurement that still refers to a physical object and it is still based on a physical prototype; it is not possible to define it through numbers or formulas. The question that Raffaelli asks himself is: how can an artist focus his attention on the material nature of a unit of measurement and more in general on the material element, in an era where everything is becoming dematerialized?
Helped by scientists of National Physical Laboratory in London, the artist 3d-scanned the kilogram prototype and discovered certain aesthetical peculiarities that don't allow its exact reproduction through digital technologies. Departing from such failure, Giacomo Raffaelli gave a physical shape to the 3d scan attempts, printing them on the skin used in the laboratories to clean the prototype; it is exactly the before mentioned obstacle to originate the artist's gesture. Pointcloud, the work exhibited at Alley, and more in general, Raffaelli's artistic practice, come from all these premises. He is interested in the peripheral, human and cultural aspects / outcomes of the scientific research. The breaking point between the natural and the cultural elements is the origin of the artist's universe, that despite the rigour and the exactitude of his research, method and process, with consciousness admits that his acts are purely instinctive”.

Giacomo Raffaelli (1988, IT) lives and works between Rovereto and London.
From 2011 to 2014 he studied at Camberwell College of Arts, London.
Recent selected group exhibitions include Camberwell Space (London), “untitled”BCN (Barcelona), Galleria Civica di Trento, Viafarini DOCVA (Milan) and Ved Siden Af (Svendborg, Denmark). He also has presented movies and performances at Mart - Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto, South London Gallery (London), L.E.S. - Local Experimental Society, (Almaty, KZ), Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival (Florence) and Guadalajara International Film Festival (Guadalajara, MEX). He has been artist in residence at Centrale Fies (Dro, Italy), Hotel Pro Forma (Copenhagen) and Le Murate. Progetti Arte Contemporanea (Florence).

Vin Vin is a gallery located in Vienna that will host its inaugural exhibition in March 2016.
The project is strongly focused on Austrian emerging practices, and will give exposure to young artists, acting as incubator for their vision. At the same time, it will be active at an international level, promoting interaction between the local art scene and art professionals and institutions abroad. The gallery is located in the center of Vienna. It neighbours the city council building (the "Rathaus") and is few minutes away from the renowned MuseumsQuartier and Eschenbachgasse (home to many established galleries).
