Pedro Torres – On the Brink of Blindness
Mostra personale.
Comunicato stampa
On the Brink of Blindness is a white hole that attracts and repels, that expels light and causes retinal persistence. A space without time or a time warped. A fluctuation of matter. An installation that entangles light, sound, space and matter in the visual and corporal perception.
----- BIO
Pedro Torres's (Brazil, 1982) practice focuses mainly on the concept of time, exploring its different aspects and perspectives, whether scientific or philosophical. In his projects, time is generally linked to other areas of human experience, such as space, materiality, memory, language and image. The latter, understood in a broad sense, is used by the artist as a mechanism, tool or concept through which to structure and question certain issues, such as the relationship between the construction of memory and images, history (time, anachronism) and narrative (language).
As the diagram shows, in Torres' works, these coordinated elements intertwine and combine in a subjective way, overlapping reflections that are both formal and conceptual. All this is done through a variety of media ranging from video, photography, sculpture and performance to writing. In the latest projects, in fact, the text acquires a prominent position, especially in video installations, where it becomes full-bodied and material. The artist uses it to transform and transmit theoretical and scientific notions and information in a poetic way. Most of Torresprendrendono start from long processes of artistic research, in which the themes and scientific theories-explored with transmedia, methodological and intuitive approach-are very present.
