Comunicato stampa
Cortesi Gallery is delighted to present the exhibition Pietro Consagra. Colloquio Diabolico on view from April 1 to June 27, 2025 at its Milan venue.
The show, curated by Alberto Salvadori in collaboration with Archivio Pietro Consagra, explores the artist’s contribution to the redefinition of modern sculpture, focusing on the concept of frontality.
The core of the exhibition is Colloquio Diabolico, a monumental burnt wood sculpture presented at the Venice Biennale in 1960, from which the exhibition takes its name.
Alongside it, for the first time all together, the five Racconti del Demonio will be displayed—works originally presented by Consagra in 1962 in Spoleto during Sculture nella città, one of the most significant Italian exhibitions dedicated to sculpture in public space, held as part of the Festival dei Due Mondi. The diabolical subject plays a central role, revealing Consagra’s interest in imagery rooted in myth and tradition, focusing on legends surrounding the devil's figure.
The exhibition will also feature bitumi, abstract paintings that reflect the internal dynamics of the Colloqui (created between 1952 and 1964), in their specific bidimensionality essential to understanding Pietro Consagra’s work.
