Comunicato stampa
Rachel Whiteread (London 1963) is one of the leading artists of her generation. She represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1997 and has had numerous international museum exhibitions. Whiteread has created important public works throughout the world, beginning with House in 1993 in London; these now include the Holocaust Memorial in Vienna, Water Tower and Cabin in New York, and The Tree of Life for the façade of Whitechapel Gallery in London. In September, a major survey of her career to date opens at Tate London; it later travels to the Belvedere, Vienna, and to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
This exhibition in Rome is of work made over the past two years, and includes a unique double-door sculpture, resin and concrete casts of windows and walls, as well as large new works made with papier-mâché.
