Substantial apre una riflessione, una soglia su una linea di pensiero comune, su una sensibilità condivisa da tre artisti che intersecano le loro differenze stilistiche, attraverso l’impiego di materiali e pratiche compositive attivate come riflessi. Processualità che affermano la sostanzialità della forma, attraverso l’ombra che l’accompagna.
Substantial racchiude processualità artistiche che sorgono dall’interno della materia e che attraverso di essa si inoltrano fino a stadi ulteriori, rappresentando un grado zero dell’essenza. Con l’intento di mostrare una verosimiglianza tra i contorni e l’immagine alla quale appartengono.
Substantial riunisce, nell’arco di qualche metro quadrato, alcuni lavori completamente inediti del duo Valentina Ornaghi (Milano, 1986) e Claudio Prestinari (Milano, 1984) assieme a Rebecca Moccia (Napoli, 1992). Tra materiali nobili e componenti quotidiane, ridotte a visioni del sentire, i tre artisti ridefiniscono quel che precede i concetti di volume e massa costituendo lo spazio-sorgente di una zona d’ombra. Un percorso a-volumetrico che analizza la sostanzialità di elementi di natura, così come di componenti antropiche portate al di là di consistenze indotte dallo sguardo. Depotenziando l’atto del vedere.
Substantial nel costituirsi come forma di un’esperienza, attraverso una molteplicità istruita di approcci concreti e poetici alla vita quotidiana, rimette la veridicità dell’aspetto più essenziale di quel che la costituisce ad una critica alle false astrattezze. Un ambito dell’immaterialità all’interno del quale incorrono tensioni fisiche tradizionali, guidate da quei dualismi irriducibili che ogni proiezione d’ombra porta in sé.
In essa, la duplicazione di una mancanza di natura pervade tanto le scritture di Rebecca Moccia, quanto i sistemi programmatici di Ornaghi & Prestinari che intaccano la natura materiale quale è: ipotizzata dalla consustanzialità e dall’esperienza sensibile.
In Substantial le singole unità di materia, sorvegliate dalla luce, si allungano, si sottraggono insieme al tutto di cui fanno parte e che idealmente le precede. I lavori presentati non incarnano termini antitetici, ma intendono configurare aspetti dell’universo sostanziale reciprocamente integrantisi. Come un organismo che, nonostante la vastità e le innegabili suggestioni del disegno speculativo originario, non può apparire privo di oscurità, né di rivelazioni o di riti gestuali.
In questo progetto ogni processo sostanziale, come sosteneva Alfred Whitehead, è legato alla reinterpretazione di idee basilari, espresse prevalentemente nella tridimensionalità, in una concretezza accennata della materia, che oppone una resistenza ad ogni ricerca della virtualità. Per dischiudersi, invece, ad una presa di coscienza del tempo, dimensione che nelle cose coincide con l’esistenza.

Substantial opens a debate, a window on a strand of common thought, a sensibility shared by three artists whose stylistic differences intersect through the use of materials and compositional practices activated like reflections. Processes that affirm the substantiality of the form through the shadow that accompanies it.
Substantial embraces artistic practices that arise from within matter and through it move on through to further states, representing a zero degree of the essence. With the intention of demonstrating a verisimilitude between the outlines and the image to which they belong.
Substantial brings together, within just a few square metres, a number of previously unseen works by the duo Valentina Ornaghi (Milano, 1986) and Claudio Prestinari (Milano, 1984) together with Rebecca Moccia (Napoli, 1992). Using noble materials and everyday components, recued to visions of feeling, the three artists redefine what precedes the concepts of volume and mass constituting the space-source of an area of shadow.
An a-volumetric path that analyses the substantiality of natural elements and of anthropic elements taken beyond the consistencies induced by the gaze. Disempowering the act of seeing.
In constituting itself as the form of an experience through an informed multiplicity of concrete and poetic approaches to daily life, Substantial subjects the veracity of the most essential aspect of what constitutes it to an examination of false abstractions. A sphere of immateriality within which traditional physical tensions meet, guided by those irreducible dualisms that every projection of shadow carries within itself.
In it, the duplication of a lack of nature pervades both the writings of Rebecca Moccia and the programmatic systems of Ornaghi & Prestinari that undermine material nature as such: hypothesized by consubstantiality and the experience of the senses.
In Substantial, the individual units of matter, overseen by the light, elongate and remove themselves together with everything of which they are a part and that ideally precedes them. The works presented do not embody diametrically opposed themes, but intend to configure aspects of the substantial universe by reciprocally integrating themselves. Like an organism that, despite the vastness and the undeniable suggestions of the speculative original design, cannot appear lacking in obscurity, revelations or ritual gestures.
In this project, every substantial process, as Alfred Whitehead claimed, is associated with the reinterpretation of basic ideas, expressed prevalently in three dimensions, in a concreteness hinted at by matter, which resists all search for virtuality. Only to open, instead, to an awareness of time, a dimension that in things coincides with existence.
