Sarah Stein – The Opening: Structures of Uncertainty

Venerdì 16 novembre, alle ore 19.00, da MEME Arte Contemporanea e prossima verrà inaugurata The Opening: Structures of Uncertainty, una mostra di Sarah Stein. Il progetto, co-curato da Enrico Piras e Giangavino Pazzola, è la presentazione della ricerca che l’artista canadese ha sviluppato nell’ambito del Master of Arts in Fine Arts appena concluso presso la Utrecht Graduate School of the Arts, Paesi Bassi.

Il progetto espositivo prevede un’installazione che sarà la cronaca di The opening (L’apertura), racconto di un’esperienza del processo visivo, di un percorso che per sua stessa natura non prevede momenti conclusivi, ma solo verità parziali. Un video, bastoncini in legno, pietre, alcune lastre di rame, cristalli turchesi e altri materiali saranno la sintesi di un’interrogazione della realtà, della sua percezione e delle possibilità di categorizzare i luoghi, senza tradirli. Immaginazione e fantasia si danno come medium per la conoscenza, per l’osservazione attenta delle forme e la ri-definizione dell’ambiente che ci circonda, nella condivisione di un dubbio atavico: chi decide le regole dell’interpretazione?

Sarah Stein (1978, Isola di Vancouver, Canada) ha una laurea in economia e commercio presso l'Università di Victoria, un BFA di Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2011), e un Master of Arts in Fine Arts dalla Utrecht Graduate School of the Arts, Paesi Bassi (2012). Attualmente vive e lavora a Berlino, Germania.

The exhibition presents the research that the artist developed during her MA Fine Arts at the Utrecht Graduate School of the Arts, The Netherlands.
The project includes an installation developed from The Opening, a narrative based on an explorative survey into the unknown and the visual process, a path through different approaches to the vast theme of the form. A video narrative, wooden sticks, copper plates, turquoise crystals and other materials will present the synthesis of an inquiry about reality, perception and the possibility of cataloguing the reality of different dimensions. Imagination works as a medium for knowledge, for the careful observation of shapes and contexts, the re-creation of places, while sharing an unresolved question: who sets the rules of interpretation?

Sarah Stein (b. 1978, Vancouver Island, Canada) holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Victoria, a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2011), and a Master of Arts in Fine Arts degree from the Utrecht Graduate School of the Arts, the Netherlands (2012). She currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
