Simon Roberts è un giovane e promettente fotografo inglese (classe 1974) già vincitore di numerosi premi e con importanti mostre in Musei internazionali.Con il progetto "We English" Simon ritorna ad un progetto "identitario",che segue il precedente "Motherland" (che lo aveva portato in Russia). Però questa volta,davvero, si dedica ad un giro nella sua "Terra Madre", l' Inghilterra. Il senso di appartenenza alla sua cultura viene ricercato nel raccontare,attraverso i suoi scatti, le usanze degli inglesi nel loro tempo libero. In We English si riconosce la britishness, non scevro da un taglio "pittorico",che ricorda le rappresentazioni della collettività borghese a riposo,di gusto tardo ottocentesco, come poteva accadere nel dipinto "La Grande Jatte" (1884) o "La Baignade à Asniére" (1883) di Seurat. Una finestra su un Paese dalle tradizioni forti e salde, che rende evidente il rapporto stretto tra l'Uomo e la Natura in cui vive e prolifica. Una ricerca che fa di Simon Roberts non solo un fotografo, bensì un sofisticato e attento "antropologo visuale",che usa le immagini per parlarci dei rituali sociali degli Inglesi. O forse, dell'Essere umano.

Simon Roberts is a promising young British photographer (born 1974) has already won numerous awards and major exhibitions in international museums.With the project "We English”, Simon returns to a project about identity, which follows the prevoius project "Motherland" (that had brought him to Russia).
