Stéphanie Nava – Ad locum venire

Il titolo della mostra Ad locum venire (Il luogo d’arrivo) rimanda immediatamente a quello che è il fulcro concettuale di tutta l’opera dell’artista: l’interesse per i luoghi che vengono indagati minuziosamente e nella loro specificità spaziale e geografica, per scoprire quali e quante relazioni si sviluppano in essi.

La Galleria Riccardo Crespi presenta Ad locum venire una mostra personale dell’artista francese Stéphanie Nava.

A partire dal disegno, Stéphanie Nava ha sviluppato una pratica ibrida che utilizza installazione, fotografia e occasionalmente animazione e video. Il suo lavoro ci porta ad attraversare spazi emotivamente carichi di suggestioni e memorie, minacce e promesse. I suoi paesaggi e le sue installazioni creano in pochi metri quadrati luoghi mentali capaci di portare lo spettatore in un viaggio spazio-temporale perturbante. I lavori di quest’artista rivelano una forza vitale prorompente e straniante, fondendo in maniera sottile spazi domestici e paesaggi architettonici.

In mostra, una serie di disegni su carta, Reprises, che testimonia la fascinazione dell’artista per i luoghi, vicini o lontani che siano: dalle Fiandre all’Estremo Oriente, passando per la Persia, lo spazio di Stéphanie Nava è costantemente abitato. I suoi personaggi si muovono in esso prendendone forma, ma al contempo adornandolo di nuovi significati e rapporti di forza che costituiscono una vera e propria narrazione. Così pure nella serie fotografica Avec perspectives intérieures, l’artista coglie i rapporti reciproci di alcuni interni, rivelando le intime connessioni delle architetture.

Anche la suddivisione degli spazi della galleria non sarà casuale, con una netta prevalenza degli spazi “umanizzati” al piano superiore e un abbandono alla natura più libera nello spazio inferiore con la serie Archipel, in cui macchie di china si prolungano in paesaggi e personaggi, e l’installazione Le cours figé des lignes che ricostruisce il greto di un fiume che percorre la galleria.

Stéphanie Nava è nata nel 1973 a Marsiglia. Vive e lavora tra Marsiglia e Parigi.

Riccardo Crespi presents Ad locum venire a solo show by the French artist Stéphanie Nava.

Starting out from drawing, Stéphanie Nava has developed a hybrid practice that utilizes installation, photography and occasionally animation and video. Her work leads us through spaces emotionally charged with suggestions and memories, threats and promises. Her landscapes and her installations create in just a few square meters mental locations that are able to take the viewer on a disturbing voyage through space and time. The works of this artist have an uncontainable and estranging vital force, fusing domestic spaces and architectural landscapes in a subtle way.

The title of the exhibition Ad locum venire (Places to come to) alludes immediately to the conceptual heart of all of the artist’s work: her interest in places, which are investigated in great detail, and in their specific spatial and geographical character, as she tries to discover what and how many relationships are developed in them.

In the exhibition, a series of drawings on paper, Reprises, bear witness to the artist’s fascination with places, be they close at hand or faraway: from Flanders to the Far East, passing through Persia, Stéphanie Nava’s space is constantly inhabited. Her figures move in it, taking on its form, but at the same time adorning it with new meanings and balances of forces that constitute a genuine narration. Likewise, in the series of photographs Avec perspectives intérieures, the artist captures the mutual relations of some interiors, revealing the inner connections of the buildings.

Even the subdivision of the spaces of the gallery is not accidental: there is a clear predominance of “humanized” spaces on the upper floor and an abandonment to a freer nature in the space below, with the Archipel series, in which blots of India ink spread out to form landscapes and figures, and the installation Le cours figé des lignes, which reconstructs the bed of a river that runs through the gallery.

Stéphanie Nava was born in 1973 in Marseille. She lives and works between Marseille and Paris.
