Venerdì 4 aprile un nuovo evento speciale a Spazioersetti: Encounters, l'installazione sonora di Thanos Chrysakis

Encounters è una installazione sonora a sei canali creata con un software di sintesi elettronica in tempo reale. Una composizione che fluttua nel tempo e nello spazio, a volte distante e a volte ravvicinata, si trasforma in densità, intensità e silenzio in continuo movimento tra sciami sonori e micro-movimenti che coesistono e si fondono con i suoni dell’ambiente circostante.
Un mondo sospeso, di durata indefinita, che in questa versione per Spazioersetti si arricchisce dell’allestimento luminoso a cura di Alessandra Zucchi.

Nato ad Atene ma residente da molti anni in Inghilterra, Thanos Chrysakis è un artista del suono che ha al suo attivo installazioni, composizioni e performances eseguite ed ospitate in vari paesi del mondo. Nei suoi lavori dà forma alla materia sonora mescolando scrittura per strumenti acustici, elettronici e registrazioni d’ambiente.
Nel 2005 è stato tra i compositori selezionati all’International Competition de Musique et d’Art Sonore Electroacoustiques di Bourges e nel 2006 ha ricevuto una menzione d’onore all’International Electroacoustic Composition Competition Musica Viva di Lisbona.
Fondatore e curatore dell’etichetta discografica Aural Terrains per la quale ha pubblicato quasi tutti i suoi lavori, Chrysakis è anche autore di articoli apparsi su autorevoli riviste del settore come il Leonardo Music Journal e Vague Terrain.
Ha collaborato con Wade Matthews, Dario Bernal-Villegas, Jerry Wigens, James O’Sullivan, Philip Somervell, Jamie Coleman, Chris Cundy, Zsolt Sőrés, Sebastian Lexer, Javier Pedreira, Artur Vidal.

«This soundscape was composed with the programming language for real time audio synthesis Super Collider back in 2002-2003 as a micro-textural spatial composition that ebbs and flows in terms of intensity, density and pace, creating a continuous movement of swarming sounds and microscopic gestures that — potentially — coexist with the sounds of the environment. At times close enough and at times at a distance, it is a hovering, suspended sound-world of an ad libitum duration, that forms a continuum between the different levels of the interior and the exterior. In this Spazioersetti placement it will be accompanied by Alessandra Zucchi’s light-work that will add and reveal another dimension between the internal and the external and their encounters.»

Thanos Chrysakis’ output consists of composition, performance, and installation. He was born in Athens in 1971, residing in the UK since 1998. With several albums to his name his work has appeared in festivals and events in several countries. He composes for electronic and acoustic instruments, as well environmental sounds, focusing on the structural, aesthetic and transfigured capacity of sonic matter. His work was amongst the selected works at the 32nd International Competition de Musique et d’Art Sonore Electroacoustiques de Bourges 2005, in the category œuvre d’art sonore électroacoustique, while received an honorary mention in 2006 at the 7th International Electroacoustic Composition Competition Musica Viva in Lisbon (the jury was constituted by Morton Subotnick (USA), François Bayle (France), and Miguel Azguime (Portugal). He has also recorded/performed with a number of improvisers including among others Wade Matthews, Dario Bernal-Villegas, Jerry Wigens, James O’Sullivan, Philip Somervell, Jamie Coleman, Chris Cundy, Zsolt Sőrés, Sebastian Lexer, Javier Pedreira, Artur Vidal.
