Venerdì 1 novembre 2019 alle 18.00, in occasione di Artissima, Quartz Studio è lieto di presentare, per la prima volta in Italia, The Annotated Reader, la pubblicazione-mostra, o mostra-pubblicazione, che raccoglie 281 reazioni creative e personali ad un testo scelto. Ryan Gander e Jonathan P. Watts hanno invitato artisti, designer, scrittori, fondatori di enti, musicisti e così via, a immaginare di aver perso l’ultimo treno del giorno. Partendo dalla domanda: “Quale testo vorresti che ti tenesse compagnia durante la notte?” hanno chiesto di proporne uno corredato da annotazioni e commenti personali. Gli oltre 200 contributi che abbracciano gli argomenti più svariati, fra cui quelli di Marina Abramović, Art & Language, Paul Clinton, Tom Godfrey, Ragnar Kjartansson, Sarah Lucas, Alistair Hudson e Hans Ulrich Obrist, offrono un ulteriore livello di lettura grazie alle annotazioni, rendendo ciascun testo un esemplare unico, nonché un documento storico dei nostri tempi.

Ryan Gander (Chester, Gran Bretagna, 1976) vive e lavora a Londra e nel Suffolk. Ha studiato alla Manchester Metropolitan University, alla Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten di Amsterdam e alla Jan van Eyck Akademie di Maastricht. Fra i progetti e le mostre recenti ricordiamo quelli esposti da Kunsthalle Bern in Svizzera (2019), Esther Shipper di Berlino (2019), Lisson Gallery di Shanghai (2019), Cambridge Biomedical Campus (2019), TARO NASU di Tokyo (2018), GB Agency di Parigi (2018), The National Museum of Art di Osaka (2017), Hyundai Gallery di Seoul (2017), Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens di Deurle, Belgio (2016), Aspen Art Museum in Colorado (2016), Lisson Gallery di New York (2016), Scrapmetal di Toronto (2016), Contemporary Art Gallery di Vancouver (2015), ACCA di Melbourne (2015) e tanti altri.

Jonathan P. Watts è critico d’arte contemporanea, collaboratore di riviste e, occasionalmente, curatore. Lavora tra Londra e il Norfolk, in Gran Bretagna.

On Friday November 1 2019 at 18:00 pm, on the occasion of Artissima, Quartz Studio is delighted to present for the first time in Italy, The Annotated Reader — a publication-as-exhibition and exhibition-as-publication featuring 281 creative and personal responses on a chosen piece of writing. Ryan Gander and Jonathan P. Watts invited a range of people, encompassing contemporary artists, designers, writers, institutional founders, musicians and so on – to imagine they’ve missed the last train. “Is there one piece of writing that you would want with you for company in the small hours?” With this in mind, Gander and Watts asked people to submit a text with personal annotations and notes made directly onto it. With over 200 contributions collected across a range of subjects, including Marina Abramović, Art & Language, Paul Clinton, Tom Godfrey, Ragnar Kjartansson, Sarah Lucas, Alistair Hudson and Hans Ulrich Obrist, the annotation adds a further layer — making each piece unique and a historic record of our current times.

Ryan Gander (Chester, UK, 1976) is an artist living and working in London and Suffolk. Gander studied at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam, NL and the Jan van Eyck Akademie, Maastricht, NL. Jonathan P. Watts is a contemporary art critic, editor and occasional curator, based between London and Norfolk.
