The Imaginary Place is the result of a listening and writing workshop carried out within the Giudecca women's prison: a circular movement between music and text, between the interior of the prison, the outside world, and the mental spaces evoked by the experience of sound. Inspired by listening to the sleeping mixes of five musicians—Caterina Barbieri, Gigi Masin, Courtesy, Lee Gamble, Opium Child—the incarcerated women have produced texts, fragments, stories, dreams, and memories born or imagined in a dreamlike dimension, then given to the musicians to create a new sonic object, at the same time narrative, personal and collective.
An installation preview of the project will take place during the opening week of the 60th Art Biennale, with a brunch prepared by “Libere Golosità”, a cooperative that deals with reintegration into prison labor in Vicenza, at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Teatrino Groggia (Cannaregio, 3150).
The imaginary Place is a project curated by NERO and Closer, produced with the support of Società delle Api.
BARONATO QUATTRO BELLEZZE: RISVEGLIO DI PRIMAVERA
April 18-19-20, from 6 to 11:30 pm
3561 Cannaregio, Venice
FREE ENTRY
For three enchanting days, we bid farewell to the Roman streets and welcome the Baronato Quattro Bellezze’s splendor, decadence, and whimsical essence to the winding alleys of Venice. Join us, along with a host of guests, musicians, wanderers, and kindred spirits, as we gather each evening for impro songs, melodies, performances, and a tapestry of conviviality. Mark your calendars for April 18, 19, and 20, from 6:00 pm to 11:30 pm, at 3561 Cannaregio, Venice. Let us all metamorphose into brigands, troubadours, and jesters of this new enigmatic court.
The Baronato Quattro Bellezze, steeped in history within Rome’s heart – once part of Domitian’s stadium, later a Renaissance tavern, and the legendary stage of Dominot – now reawakens, thanks to the musical ensemble Salò, who grace its halls every Tuesday, transforming it into a surreal tavern teeming with allure and debauchery. This event is proudly supported by Velier. The event is free entrance and the capacity is limited.
