Under the Same Roof è una mostra che nasce da un percorso semestrale, svolto da trentaquattro giovani tra i 15 e i 18 anni provenienti da Reggio Emilia e da altri paesi europei, che assume il linguaggio fotografico come strumento di riflessione e indagine su di sé.

Under the Same Roof è una mostra che nasce da un percorso semestrale, svolto da trentaquattro giovani tra i 15 e i 18 anni provenienti da Reggio Emilia e da altri paesi europei, che assume il linguaggio fotografico come strumento di riflessione e indagine su di sé. Approdo finale è la realizzazione di una still life fotografica, capace di raccontare attraverso elementi simbolici, invenzioni e giochi compositivi, l’essenza della propria condizione familiare, esattamente nell’età in cui i processi di crescita comportano un conflitto fra riconoscimento e distacco dalle proprie radici. Il classico ritratto di famiglia si trasforma in un rebus, in cui ogni ragazzo stimola l’osservatore a riflettere sul senso della rappresentazione. Il team di Spazio Gerra è stato affiancato in tutte le fasi del progetto da quattro giovani co-curatori nell’intento di dare voce, attenzione, contesto e ufficialità alla generazione Z, eliminando al massimo i filtri e le intermediazioni con il mondo adulto. Realizzato in parte a cavallo del periodo di lockdown tra gennaio e luglio 2020, il progetto è completato da un video in cui i giovani autori riflettono sul modo in cui passare la quarantena a stretto contatto con i propri famigliari abbia modificato o confermato la loro analisi.

Under the Same Roof is an exhibition resulting from a six-month course, carried out by thirty-four young people between 15 and 18 years of age from Reggio Emilia and other European countries. Intending photography as a tool for reflection and self-investigation, the young authors have created photographic still lifes, capable of telling the essence of one’s family condition through symbolic elements, inventions and formal games – exactly at the age involving a conflict between recognition and detachment from one’s own roots. The classical family portrait turns into a puzzle, in which each young photographer stimulates the observer to reflect on the sense of his/ her representation. The team of Spazio Gerra was supported in all phases of the project by four young co-curators with the aim of giving voice, attention, context and official status to the Generation Z and eliminating as much as possible the filters and intermediation with the grown-up world. Partially carried out at the turn of the lockdown period between January and July 2020, the project is completed by a video in which the young authors reflect on how passing the quarantine in close contact with their family members has modified or confirmed their analysis.
