Exhibition of new works by SACI MFA in Studio Art candidate Victoria Hodge

The transition of growing up and creating an identity is a process of pulling ideas and stories apart and putting them back together in an order that is unique to the person. Developments of time and space occur and can be seen within these paintings which are representing the “in progress” construction of a new identity. This series of paintings are Hodge’s representation of how she organizes her past and looks forward towards a future being separate, but still keeping pieces of her past. Growing up in the religious south of the United States, she holds certain beliefs and personality traits that over time abroad have morphed into a new perspective of blending culture with identity. Hodge explores the simplicity of organization of thoughts, stories, past identity, diary entries, personality, and emotions in this series, “The Space Between.” The spaces between are where the transformations happen.

WORK(IN)SPACE is a new series of exhibition projects by SACI 2nd-Year MFA Candidates in Studio Art, Photography and Communication Design as part of the Professional Practicum Seminar. Students will work directly with SACI's Maidoff Gallery to critically engage with the challenges offered by preparing an exhibition. Working in a one-to-one relationship with SACI Instructors Daria Filardo and Pietro Gaglianò, students will step outside of their studio environment to rethink their work in an exhibition setting, learning to consider all the aspects, limitations and needs of the given space to achieve the best final result.

WORK(IN)SPACE will be held in the Maidoff Gallery and will include all phases of the exhibition, from the planning, to the installation and the opening of the solo show. Visitors are invited to attend the opening of the exhibitions, or visit during opening hours.
